The KRPF seizes alcohol intended for illegal sale

July 9, 2018

Further to information received from the public, the Kativik Regional Police Force (KRPF) seized in Kuujjuaq on Friday afternoon, April 20, alcohol intended for illegal sale.

A police officer and a detective sergeant seized a first package of twelve 1.75-litre vodka bottles at the Kuujjuaq airport. During this operation, the gathering of intelligence enabled the officers to execute a search warrant. This action resulted in the seizure of another twelve 1.75-litre bottles of vodka. In total, 24 bottles were seized at the airport. The bottles were destined for a 25 year old male in Kangiqsualujjuaq.

The KRPF estimates the value of the seized bottles at between $11,200 and $16,800 on the black market. The suspect is alleged to have intended to participate in the illegal sale of alcohol during the hockey tournament in Kangiqsualujjuaq.  The event was held this year from April 19 to 23.

“The selling of alcohol violates municipal bylaws and provincial laws,” said KRPF Interim Captain Shaun Longstreet Sr. Captain Longstreet Sr. reminds the public that providing information to police is essential to fight crime.

Information on suspicious activities, including the illegal sale of alcohol and drugs, can be communicated confidentially to the KRPF via the toll free number 1-800-711-1800. Rewards of up to $2,000 may be paid for information.
