Restriction of the sale of alcoholic beverages
The Director of Public Health, as per section 106 of an Act respecting Public Health, and the Director of Public Security of Nunavik put in place restrictions on alcohol sales as of March 26, 2020.
The restrictions imposed are to limit the harm associated with heavy drinking in the context of the risks of COVID-19 transmission in Nunavik.
Consequently, it is ordered to:
- Limit the purchase of alcohol at the COOP store in Puvirnituq and COOP store in Kuujjuaq;
- Limit the purchase of alcohol from all businesses outside Nunavik who ship alcohol (Marché Turenne, Marché Daoust, Gestion Porlier).
The limits imposed for all Nunavimmiut are:
COOP store in Kuujjuaq and Puvirnituq: purchase limit of 12 beers or 1 litre of wine per person on Monday-Wednesday-Friday;
All businesses outside Nunavik shipping alcoholic beverages: purchase limit of 12 beers or 1 litre of wine per person on Monday and Thursday.
The KRPF will receive and authorize all orders made from businesses outside of Nunavik and will refuse or postpone orders if the quantities exceed the limits imposed.
The restrictions are imposed until April 13, 2020, and will be reviewed again at this time.
